The meaning here is two-fold. We should recognize the sanctity of life, and we should not let fear stifle or corrupt our lives. What happened in France is not an isolated or new phenomenon. The outpouring of emotion, while touching, seems to ignore occurrences in Africa of similar extremist activity. There were also earthquakes in Mexico and Japan over the weekend. None of us are immune to the whims of nature, nor can we hope to predict the hateful chaos brought on by religious extremism. We can however recognize that through all of this adversity we are all still human and should strive towards a humane outlook.
